Law N Paws
Animal Rescue & Sanctuary
Our Purpose
Founded in 2017 by El Paso Police Department Detective, Vanessa Acosta, Law N Paws has rescued over 550 animal victims of abuse, abandonment, and neglect in the El Paso community. With the blessing of the El Paso Police Department Former Chief of Police, the late Gregory Allen, Law N Paws rescues victims from some of the cruelest conditions created by humans. Often, cases involve starvation, dehydration, torture, brutal beatings, animal fighting, stabbings, gunshot wounds, medical neglect, and emotional abandonment.
With the support of the El Paso community and the legal backing of the El Paso Police Department, Law N Paws identifies settings of abuse and neglect, organizes an evacuation plan, uses emergency response strategies to rescue the victim, and once in police custody, transport the animal victim to a partnered local animal hospital where they will receive immediate and catered medical attention.
Each rescue entering Law N Paws receives all necessary vaccinations, medications, and spay/neuter services. No rescue is denied advanced procedures such as x-rays, blood work, biopsies, surgeries, or operations—no matter the financial cost.
We believe all animals deserve respect and love and work tirelessly to recreate the trust that was lost in the human animal bond. Our community reaches beyond the borders of the El Paso region and continues to support our efforts in rehabilitating and rehoming our rescues.
In addition to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming rescues, Law N Paws engages with the community to spread awareness of the link between cruelty to animals and violence towards humans as well as educating the El Paso community on proper animal cruelty reporting procedures.
While we collaborate with the El Paso Police Department's Animal Cruelty Unit and El Paso Animal Services, Law N Paws operates independently and does not receive funding from city, state, or federal sources. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely entirely on donations and grants to continue our vital work. Together, we strive to build a safer, more compassionate community for all residents of El Paso.
In response to the growing number of animal cruelty cases in our community, we are currently in the works of expanded to a second shelter location.
